Everything You Need to Know

The biennial Goodman Cancer Research Gala raises significant funds to support the Rosalind and Morris Goodman Cancer Research Centre at McGill University.   Gala 2016, hosted by McGill’s Faculty of Medicine and the Goodman family, will honour the legacy of Rosalind Goodman, a tireless advocate and generous philanthropist for cancer research.
The Gala attracts a sell-out crowd of 800 prominent guests that include McGill alumni, corporate sponsors, friends and donors committed to supporting cancer research at the Goodman Cancer Research Centre.
The Gala raises vital funds for cancer research initiatives undertaken by its internationally renowned investigators. Cancer touches us all - we all know someone who has battled this dreadful disease. Each sponsor and donor to the Gala plays a role in supporting life-saving cancer research. We invite you to join us in carrying on Rosalind Goodman’s dream of having a future where our children and grandchildren live a cancer-free life.

Advancing the frontiers of cancer research

In the six years since the first fundraising Gala was held, the Goodman Cancer Research Centre has made remarkable advances in a number of key areas.

• Our researchers have identified new biomarkers that have led to new therapeutic targets in colon and breast cancers.
• They have also made significant progress in understanding metastasis development and drug resistance therapies.
• New high-tech tools have led to exciting discoveries in personalized medicine – an essential first step in the development of new and desperately-needed treatments.
• Our researchers have identified a compound produced from a sponge found in the waters of New Zealand that is able to diminish cancer-induced muscle loss – one of the leading causes of cancer-related death.
• Important inroads have been made in understanding how metabolic changes in cancer cells can be used as therapeutic targets.

Your dollars in action

More than 85% of table sponsorships and 100% of donations raised through Gala 2016 will directly support the Centre’s priority needs, including:

• The creation of a multidisciplinary program with McGill hospitals to discover new molecules and treatment approaches for lung cancer and drug-resistant therapies.
• Investment in bioinformatics tools to enhance utilization of patients’ cancer samples.
• Collaboration with Quebec-based research networks and the pharmaceutical industry to facilitate the transfer of discoveries from the lab to patient.

On behalf of the researchers, students and volunteers working at the Goodman Cancer Research Centre and the patients in our community who inspire their work, thank you for your participation and your generosity.

Gala 2016 will honour the memory of my late wife, Rosalind, who was a dedicated volunteer and tireless champion of groundbreaking cancer research.

Following the launch of the Goodman Cancer Research Centre in 2008, our family realized that ongoing funding was needed to alleviate some of the financial pressures that the Centre’s scientists face.  To achieve its full potential as one of the world’s best hubs of basic cancer research, the Centre must retain its top scientific talent and be in a position to support innovative research initiatives that are typically not funded by large granting agencies. The Goodman Cancer Research Gala is a vital source of that funding.

I encourage you to lend, renew or increase your sponsorship support of this vitally important fundraising event. Through your sponsorship, the Goodman Cancer Research Centre will continue to make important strides in its quest to change the landscape of cancer research and ultimately find a cure for this devastating disease. This year, a generous gift from John and Nancy Kellett will make matching funds available to further bolster your sponsorship support.

I hope that you will join me and my family at this magical evening of fine cuisine and glittering entertainment, in the company of community-minded individuals who are committed to advancing cancer research.

Rosalind used to say:

Just put one foot in front of the other and we can together, make miles of progress, to finding a cure for cancer.

Together, we are carrying her dream forward. With my heartfelt gratitude,

Morris Goodman

Gala 2016 Sponsorships

Join us to become a partner in supporting cancer research excellence! We invite you to consider one of the array of sponsorship options below.  Being an event or table sponsor offers you a unique opportunity to play a valued role in supporting the Goodman Cancer Research Centre’s ongoing efforts to create new and more effective cancer treatments. Your sponsorship will benefit from your organization’s visibility among a group of influential people from across Canada.

John and Nancy Kellett, generous donors and friends of the Goodman Cancer Research Centre, recognize the importance of supporting the exciting work being carried out at the Centre.  Through a recent donation, the Kelletts have established a matching fund aimed at bringing in new table sponsorships and bolstering support from former table sponsors.

The following matching opportunities are available:

1. If you are a first-time table sponsor, matching support will bring your sponsorship commitment to the next level. 2. Matching funds will also be made available to table sponsors in the new young adult category to bring them to the next sponsorship level. 3. Last but not least, returning table sponsors can take advantage of a 50/50 match to increase their sponsorship to the next level.

For more details on how you can take advantage of these matching opportunities, please refer to this Sponsorship Opportunities Package.

Since matching sponsor opportunities are limited – we encourage you not to delay in making your sponsorship commitment. Please refer to this Sponsorship Pledge Form

We invite you and your organization to join a new partnership initiative which will allow you to choose how you would like to see your funds directed in support of the 4th Goodman Cancer Research Gala.

We hope that you will support or sponsor one of the innovative projects and programs that will help the Centre to move forward with pioneering research, education and training, and award initiatives.

This is an exceptional opportunity that will bring cancer investigators that much closer to unravelling the complexities of this devastating disease.

In recognition of your generous support, we will publicly acknowledge your partnership in a post-event, special publication inserted in local and national newspapers.
